Automatic theme switch (dark/light)

Documentation says:

BASE SCHEME:
    (default: dark on 256-color terminal, otherwise 16; If NO_COLOR is set, bw)

    dark    Color scheme for dark 256-color terminal
    light   Color scheme for light 256-color terminal

However, setting --color twice, with different values for dark and light results in a single (one that declared last) set of colour values used for both dark and light terminals.

What am I missing?

that's how the flags work, the last one wins. AFAIK there's no automated switch, you could do some scripting to call fzf with different arguments depending on the colorscheme used

If I use a light color scheme I can call use fzf --color light. I don't understand the question

I do not want to choose correct flag on each invocation. My expectation was that these flags just set the theme and then fzf picks dark or light theme based on the OSC 10/11. Apparently that's not the case...

I'd drop this in .zshrc or .bashrc. It picks --color=light or --color=dark from COLORFGBG, then you hang your own color mappings on that same flag.

dark and light are the two built-in bases. If COLORFGBG is empty this always takes the dark branch. This runs once when the shell starts, so it won't follow a later theme change. Swap the numbers for yours, and put the base --color first if you already have other --color flags.
